Beyond the Lesson: What Every rosscline.com Student Gets
Share
Most online English lessons end when the video call ends. At rosscline.com, that is where half of the work begins.
People sometimes ask me what makes my classes different from the thousands of other online English teachers out there. It is a fair question, and the honest answer is not “me”. It is what happens around the lesson — the things that keep a student moving between one Zoom call and the next.
So instead of describing it, I am going to show you.
Meet Yuting (she’s made up)
Lin Yu-Ting 林雨婷
34 · product designer in Taichung · intermediate · wants to stop freezing up in English meetings.
To show you everything without sharing anyone’s private records, I invented a student. Her name, job and details are made up — but every layout, every tool and every kind of note you are about to see is exactly what my real students get each week.
Yuting’s first language is Mandarin, so her pages come in English and Traditional Chinese. My students get theirs in their own language — Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, and many more.

1A free level test — and a real answer
Before we ever meet, you can take my free online English test: fifty questions on grammar, vocabulary and reading, done at your own pace, from your phone or computer.
Plenty of websites give you a test. What most of them do not give you is a person who actually reads it. I go through every answer and email you your score, the level it puts you at, and the specific things to work on — written in your language as well as in English. Here is what Yuting would receive:
Well done, Yuting! 雨婷,做得好!
Intermediate · 中級English placement test · 15 October 2026
What you did well · 表現好的地方
- Strong everyday vocabulary 日常單字很扎實
- Reading for the main idea 閱讀時能抓住重點
- Questions and question words 疑問句和疑問詞
What to work on · 需要加強的地方
- have finished vs finished現在完成式和過去式的分別
- should change, not should to changeshould 後面接原形動詞
- boring vs bored-ing 和 -ed 形容詞
You know where you stand before you spend a cent — and so do I, which means our first real lesson starts in the right place.
2The Time Document — every lesson, every payment, one page
Every student has a personal page at their own address — rosscline.com/yourname. I call it the Time Document, and I update it after every single lesson.
It shows when we meet, which lessons have been taught, what is paid, what is coming next, and any time we have moved — all on a calendar you can read in five seconds. No digging through old messages. No “wait, did I pay for last week?” If a parent, a spouse or a company is paying, they can look too.

Red means taught and paid. Amber means taught and waiting for payment. An outline means booked. That is the whole system — and it has ended more confusion than anything else I have ever built.
3A class recap in your own language
An hour of English goes by fast. By the next morning, most of us remember the feeling of the lesson but not the details — the phrase we wanted, the mistake we made twice.
So after every lesson I send a recap: what we talked about, the English you actually said and how to say it better, and the new words — in English, with an explanation in your own language, so nothing gets lost in translation. This is the part students tell me they keep and re-read.
Speaking up in meetings 在會議中發言
Tuesday 13 October 2026 · Lesson 7 · with Ross Cline
What we did · 今天做了什麼
We role-played your Monday design review: how to jump in politely, how to disagree without sounding rude, and how to finish with a clear next step.
我們模擬了你星期一的設計審查會議:怎麼禮貌地插話、怎麼表達不同意見而不失禮,以及怎麼清楚地說出下一步。Your English · 你的英文
I think we should to change the colour.
I think we should change the colour.
should 後面直接接原形動詞,不加 to。I very agree with you.
I completely agree with you.
very 不能修飾動詞 agree;可以用 completely、totally 或 really。Yesterday’s meeting was very bored.
Yesterday’s meeting was very boring.
-ing 形容事情本身;-ed 形容人的感受(I was bored)。I have finished the design last week.
I finished the design last week.
有明確的過去時間(last week)時,用過去式,不用現在完成式。New words · 新單字
Ross’s note · 老師的話

You spoke much more today than in our first lesson — real progress. This week, practise one polite way to disagree: “I see your point, but…”
今天你說的比第一堂課多很多,進步很明顯!這週練習一種禮貌表達不同意見的說法:“I see your point, but…”Homework for the week goes straight onto Yuting’s personal homework page — which brings us to the fun part.
4A homework page made just for you
Worksheets are easy to lose and easy to ignore. So every student gets their own homework page, built from their lessons: this week’s tasks, word cards with real audio, quick quizzes that mark themselves, a speaking task and a writing task.
Here is a small version of Yuting’s page. Go ahead and try it — tick the tasks, flip the cards, press 🔊 to hear the words, and answer the quiz.

QUESTION 1 · 第一題I think we should ___ the colour.
QUESTION 2 · 第二題Yesterday’s meeting was very ___.
QUESTION 3 · 第三題I ___ the design last week.
In one minute: tell me about a meeting where you disagreed with someone. What did you say?
用一分鐘說說:你曾在會議上不同意某人的意見嗎?你當時怎麼說?Try: “I see your point, but…” · “Could I jump in?”
Write 80–120 words: “The best meeting I ever had.”寫80到120個字:「我開過最棒的一次會議」。
Sample only — nothing you type here is sent or saved.
Real homework pages are bigger — several weeks of word cards, three kinds of quizzes, videos to watch, and links back to the Time Document — but this is the idea.
Why this matters
None of these things is complicated on its own. Together, they mean you are never guessing: about your level, your schedule, what you learned, or what to do next.
